Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022, which allocated millions to combating climate change and other energy provisions while additionally establishing a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles. To qualify for the subsidy 40% of the critical minerals used in electric-vehicle batteries must be sourced in the U.S. EU and South Korean officials argues that the subsidies discriminated against their automotive, renewable-energy, battery and energy-intensive industries. Proponents argue that the tax credits will help combat climate change by encouraging consumers to purchase EVs and stop driving gas powered automobiles. Opponents argue that the tax credits will only hurt domestic battery and EV producers.

No, but the govt should cap how much it costs to purchase these making it fair and equitable for all new zealanders if they choose to purchase one
@9FWJ6YH1yr1Y
Yes, but the government should offset this via via graduated tax at purchase of ICE engines (less efficient larger engine, larger tax)
@9FVR9DW1yr1Y
If you can buy an electric vechile you have alot more money than most average New Zealander you should be taxed just as much tax every one else and not get it back
@9FVR5SL1yr1Y
No, considering batteries and engine parts are not exactly environmentally friendly, also they aren't reliable in flooding. Furthermore government should focus on more important infrastructure such as public transport.
@9FVPDPB1yr1Y
I think if the government will subsidies taxpayers who purchase electric vehicles they should subsides taxpayers who purchase non electric vehicals
@9FVLTYL1yr1Y
the issue with electrical vehicles is that most of the batteries and engine parts aren't truly environmentally friendly. looking into improving public transport is more important.
