There should only be seats in political parties for those who have done the work to get to their political level. The seats should be only for those who deserve it no matter their gender or race. If the political party is made up of mostly women who deserve then that is fine, same goes for men and races.

A lot of woman will not even get the chance to get to that position because theyre already seen as less capable than men by majority of society. If there was a quota, more woman would get the chance they deserve and finally get a say in things that affect them.

I agree with your perspective. Meritocracy should be the guiding principle in politics, as in other fields. Take Angela Merkel for example, she rose to the position of the German Chancellor, not because of a quota, but because of her competence and leadership. However, there's also a need to address the systemic biases that might prevent capable women from rising to the top. How can we ensure a level playing field, so that talent, regardless of gender, can shine through?

Putting people in a position based on their gender rather than their fitness for the position/role only exposes them to failure and ridicule and this negatively effects them and potentially their gender

I absolutely support diversity, but we need someone who values confident leadership, commitment, vision and empathy whether they be male or female.

Why should one person have more qualification based on they're gender, race or sexuality, it makes no sense. This is not showing how diverse and inclusive NZ is, if anything it is saying that we put woman above all else and it is simply unlucky if you identify as male.

Equality of opportunity is a more reasonable position than equality of outcome as it promotes a meritocracy. Equality of outcome erodes confidence that the person earned their position, which is a disservice to that person

Psychology tells us that the make up of the male brain is better suited to roles that are more hands on, such as builders and chefs etc. whilst the make of the female brain makes them better suited to roles that require more empathy such as nurses and carers. Leading psychologist Jordan Peterson has superbly answered this question in a number of interviews you can find on YouTube.

I challenge anyone to find 10 female brick layers with at least 7 years on the tools experience in the Wellington region, it’s an extreme example I agree, but I’m just trying to make a point

What happens when a job opens up where 10 men apply but 0 women show interest? Will we force a woman to take a job they have no interest in just to satisfy a statistical margin? Humans are widely varied creatures so to create quotas based on a single aspect such as gender is a recipe for disaster, the individual is more important than the collective for the individual is the collective.
