There are 1.8 billion muslims in the world. To present an argument that percentage wise they are high risk is farcical.

 @9FD2NYLGreenagreed…7mos7MO

Having a very quick look through notable terrorist attacks in NZ, almost every single one was committed by a non Muslim. This feels extremely hateful and racist.

 @9FCP7PJagreed…7mos7MO

As far as my research shows, there has only been one single count of terrorism by a Muslim extremist in all of New Zealand history. That was in 2021 by a single deranged person with a knife. There is absolutely no evidence that the average Muslim immigrant is more likely than a non-Muslim immigrant to commit an act of terrorism.

muslims aren’t the only group who could be terrorists and it’s very discriminatory against that one culture.

Risk assessment should not be based on ethnic or religious stereotyping. Western focus on non-Christian, non-white threats has resulted in both the radicalizing of 'other' and created a blind spot to the threat of radical white supremacy.

Muslim people vary as much as other religions. The context of muslim and terrorist needs to clearly stipulated so targeted bans rather than blanket bans can be considered.

 @9FB9K74Labouragreed…7mos7MO

The last terrorist attack in New Zealand 51 Muslims got killed and 40 were injured. It wasn’t a Muslim doing the attack it was an Australian man. There are only a small portion of Muslim doing the attacking and it’s mostly other people doing the attacking. We can’t go around saying Muslims are terrorists when only a small majority are terrorists. And the small majorities is just as likely as other people to be a terrorist. You should never put a stereotype on someone.

The ability to come to a safe country and be given the same chance as everyone else is a human right.

A Muslim didn't shoot and kill 51 people, doesn't mean we ban all white aussie Christians from entering

Those who are terrorists identify themselves as muslims but muslims are not like them and they do not believe these people are a part of their religion. One of the main laws of Islam is to not hurt another man, woman or child. So those terrorists are going against them and they are not real muslims.

As someone who works with youth, there is a balance between the "troublemakers" for each race. Pakeha, Maori, Pacific & Refugees/Immigrants.

Religious prejudice doesn't represent who you are. If anything, the Christians are worst as they have gone on Crusades and slaughtered countless people in the name of their God. Does that represent today's Christian? Only a small portion are like that.

Would you trust a doctor to perform eye surgery with a blowtorch to fix a floater? That’s what you’re asking the government to do by screening immigrants for potential terrorists—cutting the country off from talent, population growth, and a greater tax base to guard against something that isn’t actually that big an issue.

 @9G3BG86agreed…7mos7MO

What % of violent crime in NZ is carried out by Muslim immigrants? It’s too small to create an entire screening process solely for Muslim immigrants.

 @9FLC92Wagreed…7mos7MO

It's discrimination and unreasonable. Have a standardised risk assessment factoring in relevant historical data while factoring in specific findings related to individuals

 @9FLBQ67Greenagreed…7mos7MO

Invasion of Iraq, 9-11, March 2019, colonization, all things which have happened from multiple races.

 @9FL5JBKdisagreed…7mos7MO

Their cultural believes don’t mix with nz culture which could create problems, especially when too many are coming to nz at once.

 @9FT6KT2agreed…7mos7MO

There is zero supporting evidence in NZ to claim such a statement, in fact the opposite is true. NZs most infamous "terroist" attack was from a white austrialian AGAINST the muslim people, if anything NZ should be providing them support from questions such as this. FYI im not muslium.

Follow up question. Please define the term "terroist" and provide clear CAUSATION not CORRELATION to muslim people, moreso than you would a just claiming all males are likely terrorists.

 @9D45MSXOutdoors and Freedomcommented…9mos9MO

because most Muslims are not terrorists or criminals, i do not beleive in discrimination in any way shape or form, what a stupid question it's just like saying should all christians or jews be screened as potential terrorists, live and let live!

 @9FD22JQNationalagreed…7mos7MO

If I was to say no it would be based on the fact that we could be able to look after our current population better rather than letting more in and giving less "love" to the current population of NZ.

 @9FBXH96agreed…7mos7MO

Using racial or religious profiling to determine if someone is a terrorist is fine, the issue is out right ban because our systems are not good enough. Just make the systems better now.

 @9FHL47JGreenagreed…7mos7MO

I'm not going to go hunting for data since I'm filling this out in the middle of my work day, but the research of a range of social and political scientists, democracy researchers and urban designers clearly backs this up in community and political contexts. As far as I can tell, there's no actual research or evidence backing up the majority of positions generally considered right-leaning, which tend towards fear and judgment based and emotionally driven (which isn't to say left-leaning ideas are immune from these - Far from it!).
