China is investing millions in the Pacific countries through infrastructure, education etc which puts people in the islands in a position of debt. We instead should be nurturing relationships with those communities

You should continuously be working on your economy, continually pushing in new directions, making new deals, expanding the opportunities to do more. Those who go to AU for some new experience should then be attracted back later, when they can apply some new insights and new experiences back home. More trade = good.
