Do you believe trade unions help or hurt the economy?
Labor unions represent workers in many industries in the United States. Their role is to bargain over wages, benefits, working conditions for their membership. Larger unions also typically engage in lobbying activities and electioneering at the state and federal level.

Support unions for publicly funded jobs such as teachers and nurses as they have limited competitive options in the job market. Against trade unions.
@9HK9YD6 5mos5MO
The unions of supporters with Maori and pakeha with decision was based by legend former US president Donald Trump and former UK Prime minister's office dramatic for power limited

They don't do anything special to the economy
They are necessary, but should be neutral in this respect.
Depends on the trade union
@9D8K7M79mos9MO
I believe trade unions on NZ are entirely irrelevant.
It depends on the profession
Hurt the economy, but they were never about growing the pie, they were about fairly dividing it.
@9CX9WX610mos10MO
Not a straight forward enough question/answer
@9CTJ2WH10mos10MO
@9B8PBMD1yr1Y
Sadly, they are necessary to support those who cannot fend for themselves. The number who cannot support themselves is increasing.
@92GXLZS2yrs2Y
Help but have the potential to hurt.
@9FN8LBQ7mos7MO
Unions are ineffectual without great leadership. Some are just bureaucracies the control others
@9FM6L8QNew Zealand First7mos7MO
They should be there to protect big business from exploiting their workers their hours their pay rates.
@9FDT345Opportunities8mos8MO
Hurts the economy, that's the point, but can be beneficial for the country overall.
@9FCTL378mos8MO
Hurt. Collective bargaining and striking for conditions is useful, but they shouldn't be making politicol donations and making political attack ads. Such groups should try to strong arm me into joining (who the f%$# do they think they are to do that?).
Hurts the economy but improves work environments
@9F98BRRNew Zealand First8mos8MO
I don’t understand what a trade union is
Neither hurt nor help but they must not be allowed to have power to call strikes to the extent that they did with freezing workers in the 1970s
@9DSF5Y88mos8MO
I’m un sure what this Means
Not enough knowledge on this.
@9DP6M8V8mos8MO
They are not good at supporting workers in disputes because they do not have enough Employment Lawyers.
@9DNCZMN8mos8MO
Neutral. Don’t have enough objective information
@9D78J3V9mos9MO
Depends on the union and demands. Mostly help, but can't deny some are very unreasonable.
@9D688729mos9MO
Don’t know enough to fairly have an opinion.
@9D4TSBV9mos9MO
In the past they have sometimes hurt the economy, or threatened to if in key export/transport sectors (e.g meat inspectors, waterside workers, oil rig workers, ferries) but I think these days they mostly help, as we are bleeding staff from the underpaid professions like teaching and healthcare. We need to retain these people and attract more to join these professions.
@9D2W9ZZNew Conservative10mos10MO
They can hurt the economy, however, the good of the workers should be prioritised.
I don’t have the knowledge to answer
@9BYQNQ312mos12MO
@9BXZZYY12mos12MO
I dont give a rats arse
@9BFX3691yr1Y
Hurt, but are positive for individuals and should exist
@9BBLX5N1yr1Y
Believe in balance need them to protect the larger employee’s from big industry
@98ZRDLW1yr1Y
Unions have mostly been gutted and become ineffective so they don't help or hurt the economy
@93W8VGG2yrs2Y
Trade unions are necessary to keep the bargaining power of corporations in check.
@8XF58Z32yrs2Y
Used power boards important electric power lines
@8HZRZ7M4yrs4Y
Yes they do hurt it but that's not the point lol
@8HL8YHD4yrs4Y
Both. Unions do not always promote the best interests of the economy. They promote worker wishes first and often at expense to employer
@8H5ZQD84yrs4Y
Not informed on this topic
@8H5SQ7C4yrs4Y
In my own experience they are useless in fighting the big battles.
@8F3VT824yrs4Y
Trade unions are required for ensuring a collective representation of the employees. However they should operate within a framework which does not impede the business.
@8CJWDC64yrs4Y
don’t know what this is
Disappointed in actions of some unions. The support of a union when needed is great but the activism and decisiveness of some personnel and/or union groups is totally counter active to improving members lot.
@8GL4HSX4yrs4Y
Don’t know what this means
@8GKJ42V4yrs4Y
Both. They represent those who may be exploited or cannot represent themselves. Unions can hold govt to ransom when we pay for it through debt funding.
@8F3699M4yrs4Y
Help, in theory but there are many loop holes in the system
@8DVTVD94yrs4Y
It depends on the union and the issues
@8D5FHJ94yrs4Y
They do hurt the economy but are still necessary
@8DYWTXX4yrs4Y
Trade unions were created to provide a voice for the general worker but some unions have become so expensive to run that all the money goes to the negotiators and people who run the unions and I have seen over the years less and less being achieved by the unions and all their powers have been eroded. If a company has a good HR team then Unions are really not needed now.
