The more readily available reliable public transportation is, the more likely we are to use it. By implementing more public transportation combined with congestion charges we actively promote more use of public transport and travel times for everyone on all modes is reduced. It's a win win and a no brainier. It is proven in every major european city and Singapore

I have witness huge traffic jams with single use cars and with the cost of fuel and global warming we should do better

With population growth, only good mass transit offering can move people efficiently. Traffic will only increase on our roads and building new ones will only add short term solutions.

That in a period of inflation running a car is expensive for most households and that spen money on public transport would help the country saving money on subsidies...

 @9FQQHH4Greendisagreed…8mos8MO

Our current public transportation is so poor that people have to use personal vehicles to commute. This increases road traffic, carbon emissions and overall public congestion. Also having a poor public transport system disadvantages those whom do not own a car (who are more likely to be the most socially disadvantaged people in society).

Private transportation in cities is very inefficient and bad for both land-use and greenhouse gas pollution

An effective public transport system (i.e. rail) has many benefits. Reduction of individual vehicles on the roads would likely lessen emissions, cut down travel times between main cities, reduce road toll and create jobs with the increased infrastructure. Look at countries in Asia or Europe for example. If NZ had invested the same time and money into rail over the past 50-60 years, we wouldn't have such a huge task in front of us when it comes to emissions and road safety.

Reducing spending on public transport will force more people to drive their cars, which will slow the energy transition and redirect a disproportionate amount of public funding to highways. More cars on the road will require more infrastructure upgrades and the cycle will be ongoing. NZ needs a better public transport network nationwide to support citizens getting to work and contributing to the economy.

New zealand is 20 years behind the rest of the world and a large reason for that is our lack of public transport. to get to auckland from hamilton on a bus, $30/$120+ depending on time of booking. A train would carry 10fold the people and cost the public a fraction of what it is now to travel 100kms

Public transportation is the backbone of any functional country. The continued reliance on individualized transport is contributing to the climate crisis, and to be honest in Auckland, NZ there is a Public Transportation crisis. Rail is the past, present & future of public transport and governments both local and central need to invest.

Public transport is good for environment, traffic congestion, health, air pollution people without a car or a driving licence

 @9FPDMJJOpportunitiesdisagreed…8mos8MO

It’s important to conserve the environment and provide opportunity for locals and tourists to commute with more convenience and efficiency throughout our country. It will also provide a larger revenue the more public transportation services get used

The death rate on our roads are too high. Providing good, safe, cheap public transportation will limit the amount of cars on the road, and then hopefully less deaths

Cities designed for the private vehicle are stuck in an endless loop of growth > congestion > urban sprawl.
NZ does not have the landmass to compensate for this.

Everyone benefits from better public transport, as it stops people having to afford increasingly expensive petrol, and frees up the roads for those who either need to drive or choose to drive

 @9FL9ZD5Nationaldisagreed…8mos8MO

Currently dosnt support the demand. Our public transport system needs to improve, the more improvements the more people will start to use just takes time.

 @9FL5Y87Greendisagreed…8mos8MO

Well if we do that then there will be more people useign car witch is expencive and use a lot of gass.

 @9FL5PY6disagreed…8mos8MO

Increasing spending will allow for better public transport. Better public transport will allow for more people to travel to a location in one vehicle. This will help lower emissions

 @9FJMQT3Nationaldisagreed…8mos8MO

Traffic is bad, existing ferry services are being reduced and our emissions are terrible, it takes twice as long to complete

Go visit a country with great public transport and come back and tell me its necessary to cut funding.
