As an immigrant myself, we came here for better work and a better future for the family. We did not know about New Zealand's history or language much. Over the years we have learnt but our own culture is most important. I understand the Maori stand point and needing to maintain Te Reo and Tikanga. However, you cannot force immigrants to know about something they do not understand. New Zealand's culture and history is so vast and there are many things we don't even know from the past so how can we expect immigrants to pass a test about this topic?

Learn about the topic, citizenship is a privilege from proving that you are helpful to our country and that you respect and understand our culture, history, way of life and identity. It is not a right. Do you want to live here or what?

No because half the country doesn’t even know about the basic level of understanding of New Zealand.
