Public health services should be run in public interest not for profit. It hasn’t worked in other jurisdictions
@9FC35RDOpportunities2yrs2Y
This would restrict access to the less financially capable portion of society and drive Healthcare costs up across the board, necessitating private insurance schemes.
Health care should be available to all, at the highest quality. People dont understand how important it is until they need it
Such a stupid idea. Neoliberalism at its worst. We should not be making money in the health of our most vulnerable the sick.
@9FB8WXPNew Conservative2yrs2Y
If health care is privatised, people will have to pay for health care. If the Government runs the hospitals, then the health care won't be needed to pay more for.
This would increase inequality and would not be equitable. The United States is a perfect example of the dangers of privatising health services.
Our health system is already in a terrible state. Every NZer should be entitled to the best health care possible. Privatizing will only make this harder to obtain. The current national health register with one code that follows you everywhere is on the right track but our health system needs greater financial support. We lack the right medicines, the current latest technology and well paid trained staff. Privatizing will disadvantage many.
Privatisation of any public entity has already been proven a failure. Costs increase, the clients needs come secondary to cutting costs and making a profit. IMO every privatisation we’ve seen has been a complete failure
Access to high quality medical care should be a basic human right in our country - NOT just an additional privilege for the rich. Even the rich should be able to access high quality public healthcare when it is needed.
Privatising health care adds an extra layer of profit requirement into the system so can only be more expensive. It also leads to inequitable access and outcomes based on people's financial position and employment status and increases chances of people being bankrupted by healthcare issues.
@9F8FTCVOpportunities2yrs2Y
so long as we do away with patents on healthcare tech, all that leads to is extortion. look at the price of epipens,
Privatization bring elitism. Is not better than a public system. Excludes people.
I have worked in the health system for my life.. 50 years
Health is a public good. Privatisation leads to cuts in service and quality, the public has to pay more for less and wait a lot longer for it; and a select few will make a massive profit at the expense of everyone else in NZ.
Healthcare should be funded by taxes, free for all, and not used as a political football. Our Healthcare system has already failed us all.
@9FHM9TS2yrs2Y
Evidence of how **** ed humans get when that happens, reality is not a numbers game you doofus. Look at the misery America is.
The main argument for privatisation is that private companies have a profit incentive to cut costs and be more efficient. If you work for a government run industry managers do not usually share in any profits.
It would make far more sense to create policy with bi partisan agreement to reduce unnecessary spending in continuing healthcare reforms from each changing government
An example of a privatised healthcare system where those who cannot afford private care can be turned away from a hospital due to a lack of medical coverage.
@9F7F8VDTe Pāti Māori2yrs2Y
No need to unless you want to increase the heath poverty and become similar to American terrible health system
Aside from grossly increasing health inequities, privatised healthcare has been shown to decrease efficiency and increase spending. This is largely due to the increased administrative burden associated with making claims and delaying treatments until insurance approval comes through, leading to illnesses worsening and more drastic (and expensive) treatments required.
Public health services should be run in public interest not for profit. It hasn’t worked in other jurisdictions.
@9FFSNBF2yrs2Y
As a health care worker there is such a need for public services whyyy would you privatise them?!?
Horrifyingly inequitable and limits access to healthcare for students, seniors, and other vulnerable populations and creates a system in which people can not engage in preventative healthcare. Do not privatize.
that is not a good idea because there are a lot of people who can't afford private hospitals which are largely Maori and Pacific people. This would mean our health problems just get worse.
@9FFG9XL2yrs2Y
It is going to make healthcare less accessible to lower socioeconomic areas and leave our indigenous Māori population worse off.
Healthcare should be funded by taxes, free for all, and not used as a political football. Our Healthcare system has already failed us all.
Well funded public healthcare allows for incriminatory treatment without large cooperations skimming off the top.
Healthcare should be funded by taxes, free for all, and not used as a political football. A business approach to healthcare will result in those who cannot afford it not receiving the care they need and deserve.
@9F4MH79Opportunities2yrs2Y
Healthcare should be domain of government to provide for citizens, and more should be done to educate the population that their taxes are important to achieve this and other aims, such as education and mental health support
