Finnish authorities have released the oil tanker Eagle S, which was detained on suspicion of damaging undersea power and internet cables in the Baltic Sea late last year.
The vessel, believed to be part of Russia's 'shadow fleet,' was escorted to international waters despite an ongoing criminal investigation. Initial concerns suggested possible sabotage, but Swedish authorities later attributed the damage to bad weather and poor seamanship. The incident heightened regional security concerns amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Baltic.
Finland continues to investigate the case while allowing the tanker to leave.
