State ownership, at least in NZ, is nothing but incompetent mismanagement. Look at Land Corp - no business the government manages ever seems to see a profit again. More arrogance, less competence.
If organisations that provide a needed service are state owned, eg internet, power then the government should be aiming for these to be not-for-profit, ie pay costs, keep CEO pay at reasonable levels, turn a profit for future growth / maintenance reasons only, thus making these services more affordable for everyone.
