I believe it unfair that a large amount of students are not eligible to receive student allowance based off their parents income when it is quite likely that those parents will not aid you financially.

Student poverty is an area that impacts a lot of student learning during university journey. There is an unlevel playing field for those students brought up with trust funds and those brought up in poverty. Eliminating student poverty will allow for all students to perform at full capacity during study and exams - which is important for the future of NZ to have fully capable, full fledged students to get a good education to boost the economy.

Children should be able to focus on their passions and school/studies, not money and allowances, but should be able to gain an allowance if applied for if they meet the criteria, are good and have decent or passing grades, and are in no sort of trouble, if they aren't well off or have no support from others, etc Parents/parent.

Student allowances should not be based on parent income when
Parents often don’t contribute money towards their children’s education

Education should be affordable for all students. Just because a student has both parents and these parents earn above the threshold, does not mean that the student is well off

Higher education needs to be more accessible financially and in order to get better grades students need to focus on their study not their part time job.
