Our daughter in 1st year at university, works 2 part time jobs, studying full time and trains for her sport 3-4 per week (competes at national level) she receives no student allowance to assist her or relieve financial pressure because on paper we (her parents) earn too much, however our levels of debt are large (family reasons) and we are unable to assist her financially at all. I feel sick that she is punished for our financial position - it is not a fair or true gage of eligibility.

I studied full time for 3 years, and for those 3 years I had to work 20+ hours per week just to scrape by. I was getting only $170 per week for the living cost allowance because my parents "earned too much". At the time only my Dad was working and they were not in a position to help me financially. This resulted in a mental health breakdown as my degree was full on and I had no time for anything else except uni, study and work. I also lost a lot of weight from not being able to eat much or nutritionally. I noticed those that did best in my class were all financially stable - either receiving the student allowance and/or receiving help from family and living rent free at home. For those that didn't, we worked the hardest but struggled the most. It's time all learners get a fair chance at educational success!

unless they are being financially supported by their parents i do not see a reason that their parent’s allowance should effect their allowance

There have been many ideas bought to the table by the government on this issue but nothing has changed or been implemented.

People can pay for their own education. Too many people get degrees that don't use them. What a waste of taxpayer money.

It already heavily restricted and impossible to live off in this currently cost of living crisis. But also the thresholds are too low but then those with trusts and companies can get around the income thresholds. Lastly the restrictions on income from your parents till your 25 is ridiculous

A family friend of mine got allowance because her retired parents had most of their income in other assets so she was eligible even though her parents were very wealthy and able to pay off her loans, I am raised by a widow mother whos income was eligible for the loan however just because she lived with her new partner I was unable to get the allowance even though he has never contributed to me and both of them keep their income separate.

My friend who is a 3 year apprentice is buying a house and i am in my 3 year of study as well and I live off $400 a week just making it by with a huge student loan that just keeps getting bigger. After my rent, bills and food is brought for the week I basically have to decide if I want gas or money to spend time with friends and family that week. Most of the time it’s gas :(

If students are unable to get a job and have no income from parents/parent or people then they should be able to get an allowance again if they have passing or decent grades and arent in any sort of trouble, they should be able to get an allowance from the Government/s.

Students should be enabled more to learn and develop the intellectual output of our country. We have the potential to be a powerhouse in the tech industry with our neutrality and global position. Currently our students are far worse off financially then those on the doll. Pushing allowance, and post graduate scholarships at least up to the minimum wage would stop the brain drain, and help accelerate this potential futur

Have look at students living in overcrowded houses, in housing buildings, working fulltime jobs while studying fulltime.

You gonna pay for your 23 year old child’s speeding ticket even though they have a part time job? No you arnt because they should be responsible for themselves so if that is recognised by the government and the ticket is sent to them to pay rather than their parents as it’s not the parents job to pay their adult kids bills? No so if they are responsible for paying their own bills give them the ability to do so as they should be self sufficient

It’s unfair a lot of students who are ineligible for student allowance due to their parents income but don’t receive help or aid from this parents in question. And the state some students have to live in due to rent prices and the current living cost which create students to decide between essential items. Some students have to work an insane amount of hours on top of their studies to afford to live, which isn’t fair.
