The government already taxes at every point. A captital gains tax to a single home owner after real estate agent fees, is a kick in the nuts to casual seller.

It is crazy that you can make more tax fee income on owning property in New Zealand than you can as working as a doctor.

If we increase taxes on capital gains there will be less investment. Less investment leads to less economic growth.

I think the hard workers such as tradies trying to make a life for themselves and try to get ahead in life and not living paycheck to paycheck would really appreciate it if tax was lowered and not increased, therefore there might be more tradies and not a shortage of them

I think you misunderstood the question. Capital gains tax will not majorly effect the middle class tradie living paycheck to paycheck

The only people saying yes are people without homes of their own. The people that always blame the government or someone else when things aren’t handed to them. We need to reduce needless spending, not tax more so we can waste more money on hand-outs.

A lack of tax on capital gains only widens the wealth gap. A central principle of economics is that you can only earn money by spending 1) time (i.e. one's labour, which is limited by hours in the day); and 2) money (i.e. one's investment, which is limited only by the growth potential financial instrument employed). This means that only those with access to expendable capital can employ both methods. Worse yet, a lack of capital gains tax mean: 1) they are not required to contribute a share of wealth earned by capital means, despite their vastly improved means to accumulate wealth;…  Read more

Those who move property quickly pay taxes regardless. Applying at capital gains tax, This doesn’t help the issue.

We must encourage and applaud success, not envy and cut down tall poppies as this country currently does. So much envy in New Zealand.

Families should be able to keep what they earned without the government forcefully taking it away after a family members death.
