It would be extremely costly to the public for little benefit considering our GDP and geographical position mean we will likely never be involved in a foot war on our soil. Wars are fought at high levels of abstraction these days trhough physical/digital infrastructure sabotage and nuclear posturing not boys with guns!
Military service is a privilege and a choice, forcing people to serve will only end in our military being full of people who don't want to be there.
