Increase, and make our youth more patriotic/nationalistic to new zealand whether they are european or maori/islander

 @9KJC3V9Nationalanswered…9mos9MO

I think we should decrease the spending because we are not in any trouble and I don't think that any country will attack us.

 @9DHHD6Fanswered…1yr1Y

NZ has virtually no capability to defend itself and is too reliant on other countries. If we spent more on DEFENCE this could also offer people careers they otherwise wouldn't have access to.

navy should have many small bases with coastal boats , torpedo and minigun armed. air force should have fast deploy heavily armed jets for coastal protection . army should specialize in coastal defense and guerilla warfare

Increase but to buy more NZ required equipment and pay for better wages, more NZ based staff and training for deployment within New Zealand only or to assist in pacific nations non military rescue.

 @9D8LMWNACTanswered…1yr1Y

Stop paying higher ranking officials so much and wasting money on frivolous spending within military

 @9D8L3DDGreenanswered…1yr1Y

Increase, but the current military spending should be investigated and made more efficient

 @9D8K7SHanswered…1yr1Y

Only if it is to better our NZ defence if they were to be a war against us.

 @9D88MZJGreenanswered…1yr1Y

Add funding to support our military in responding to natural disasters at hom

 @9D87P92Greenanswered…1yr1Y

Spending should reflect the needs of our defence services especially as it relates to maintenance of equipment and staffing in order to provide peacekeeping and emergency relief, support of allies, and to ensure they can respond appropriately in a time of crisis

 @9D7S3LHOpportunitiesanswered…1yr1Y

Increase but as a way to upskill youth and help them get into the workforce with out student loans

 @9D7RWK8Greenanswered…1yr1Y

Decrease, fighting in international wars but increase for essential country service such as the emergency landing site in Ohakea

 @9FYFYHManswered…1yr1Y

it depends on the current rate of spending at that does not seem to be something clearly transparent or somewhat publically made avaliable "or known of to be"

 @9FQFN4GGreenanswered…1yr1Y

Maintain current spending, ensure money is spent on peacekeeping, environmental security, foreign aid/disaster relief.

 @9FNDKFSanswered…1yr1Y

 @9FN6XGRACTanswered…1yr1Y

Yes, but military activity should be limited to relief, peacekeeping and fishery protection roles

 @9FJY7Z5answered…1yr1Y

Increase only if used for the protection of our own people in emergencies such as floods/hurricanes; decrease for warfare

 @9FJHV7ZNew Conservative answered…1yr1Y

Increase: combine all groups, coast guards, military, airforce, navy etc, into one group and work together

 @9FJLF4SACTanswered…1yr1Y

We should only have a navy as we are a small island, but have new boats and equipment, with the coast guard as a support to the navy.

 @9FDT345Opportunitiesanswered…1yr1Y

Increase, but only because global-geopolitics is going to become more turbulent in the future.

 @9FCHJH8Labouranswered…1yr1Y

Increase where necessary to ensure we can patrol and protect our borders and also to ensure military help for emergencies

 @9F9G98TGreen answered…1yr1Y

We should become neutral and have armed forces for aid or fisheries protection only

 @9F9G5H8Labouranswered…1yr1Y

Increase, but target their activities to more local needs to help fill the gaps in our policing.

 @9F86C5Danswered…1yr1Y

Increase, but we should be using our militaries skills more locally during emergencies. Peacekeeping to free up our police, clean up and construction coordination

 @9F5KSRBNationalanswered…1yr1Y

Increase but make them more prevalent when community's are in destress they are deployed immediately.

 @9F4TY44answered…1yr1Y

 @9F3S334answered…1yr1Y

New zealand should be de-militarized and funds repurposed into education and health.

 @9F2B9X5ACTanswered…1yr1Y

 @9DY49VPanswered…1yr1Y

It’s ok to have the same spending but Should not get involved in Europe’s wars - should be protecting our interests in the pacific

 @9DW7J47Greenanswered…1yr1Y

There should be less fixation on arbitrary spending and instead restructure how we view the military with resources distributed accordingly. This includes the end of imperialist behaviour and instead a shift towards defence and peacekeeping when possible.

 @9DVP6SLLabouranswered…1yr1Y

New Zealand should spend as much as is necessary to maintain staff and hardware required for ally support and national defence.

 @9DVGLL3Green answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but we should fixate less on surface-level spending and instead look towards restructuring our military relations. A functional military service should end imperial influence and focus on sufficiency while benefitting the lives of civilians and our allies in the Pacific.

 @9DSYKRVLabouranswered…1yr1Y

Any school leavers who do not have a job to go to, or a training institute, should be required to join the military for life skills and training, thus the government will need to spend more in investing in our youth. This should be cost effective

 @9DSPRKWanswered…1yr1Y

make is so that we have enough force to defend if something actually happens but no massive spend

 @9DSL7JFanswered…1yr1Y

Increase, but only with the focus on disaster and emergency response, not armed conflict.

 @9DRZX7Vanswered…1yr1Y

 @9DRYWK9answered…1yr1Y

I know nothing about this can’t comment but maybe stay the same because we don’t have military threat there are better things to spend it on

 @9DRY7CManswered…1yr1Y

Create a version of the US system with a “pentagon” like organization that allows you to use tax payer dollars to support high tech industry so that you can compete in the highest and fastest growing markets in the world. This illusion is called the military industrial complex but it’s really not for military spending it’s a guise to use the populations taxes to fund high tech industries.

 @9DRSFGKOpportunitiesanswered…1yr1Y

I believe it should be increased but only after they have figured out a better long-term plan for our military. Personally i feel we should be investing in a far better navy or even coast guard. It would be very hard for most countries to even attempt to invade if we had sea power because we're so far from anywhere that they'd have a lot of difficulty with logistics.

 @9DQXFPVNationalanswered…1yr1Y

Yes, by a lot. We need armoured vehicles (e.g. main battle tanks, armoured fighting vehicles), artillery (e.g. HIMARS multiple rocket launcher system), air defence systems (e.g. Patriot missile defence), more powerful navy ships (e.g. more advanced frigates, destroyers and cruisers, as well as submarines), and of course we need fighter aircraft (e.g. F-35, F-15EX, F-16V, Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale). Also allow nuclear-powered vessels such as ships and submarines. We also need more soldiers. Our current military is too weak and lags too far behind other OECD countries and our allies.…  Read more

After the length of time it take for our military to get into action after a natural disaster, I hate to thing what it would be like if we were invaded.
